Newcastle United’s pursuit of a potential replacement for Alexander Isak hit yet another snag on Thursday, with a double blow regarding possible additions.
Liverpool continues to keep an eye on events at St James’ Park, with Anfield executives hoping any new arrivals could hasten the exit of Isak, whom the Reds saw a bid turned down for earlier this month.
The striker’s self-imposed exile from the first-team picture has dominated the transfer landscape for weeks, and Isak is still training away from the rest of Eddie Howe’s squad. Ironically, that will work in Liverpool’s favor on Monday when the sides meet in the Premier League, with Anthony Gordon again expected to start as a central striker.
It’s a necessity created by Newcastle’s inability to sign a new No. 9 so far this summer. The north-east side has tried and failed to bring in Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko, among others.
Yoane Wissa has been the name on everyone’s lips in the last few days, following reports of a £40 million ($53M) offer that was rejected by Brentford earlier this week. And in a fresh blow, after taking a leaf out of Isak’s book and making himself unavailable for selection, Wissa has now returned to training.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, talkSPORT claims another forward on Newcastle’s radar, Jorgen Strand Larsen, will not be on the move before the window shuts on September 1.
The report claims Wolverhampton Wanderers “have no intention to sell so late in the window”.
However, it seems Newcastle's policy is: if you don’t succeed at first, try, try again. The club is certainly trying to test the patience of its fans, at least.
Now it’s Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson that has emerged as a possible candidate, with the 24-year-old linked earlier this window. Fabrizio Romano claims Newcastle’s interest has been reignited following its recent failings.
“There’s big movements ongoing around Nico Jackson, he’s definitely set to leave Chelsea very soon,” he wrote on X.
“Understand Newcastle and Bayern have both called again in last 48h, Aston Villa pushing as Unai Emery wants him.”
For now, Liverpool fans continue to watch on in hope. Perhaps Jackson can finally be the answer. Either way, time is running out for Newcastle to secure a replacement for its star asset.
