Liverpool and Wolves could both be without eight players for today's Premier League clash at Anfield, with Arne Slot and Rob Edwards facing some difficult selection dilemmas as a result.

Dominik Szoboszlai is suspended for the game having picked up his fifth booking of the campaign to date against Tottenham last weekend. Mohamed Salah, who has scored in both matches so far for Egypt, is away at AFCON.

Cody Gakpo and Conor Bradley were rated at 50:50 in terms of availability earlier in the week, with Slot suggesting both could have a chance of featuring. The pair would be likelier to make the bench, however, rather than the starting XI.

Joe Gomez remains sidelined, though he won't be out for too long, and Giovanni Leoni is a long-term absentee. Alexander Isak will be out for months, while Wataru Endo has a muscle injury at the moment.

Jeremie Frimpong is back fit again and could be chosen to start, while Hugo Ekitike is set to lead the line. Federico Chiesa is fit but has only ever started one Premier League game before — a meaningless defeat against Brighton in May.

Florian Wirtz had cramp at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but will be fine to be involved. The German has improved his form lately and picked up his first Premier League assist when Isak got injured.

As for Wolves, the struggling bottom team will be without Toti Gomes, who will miss a few weeks with a hamstring injury. Winger Rodrigo Gomes is sidelined at the moment too. He is poised to return in late January or potentially early February.

The attacker had surgery last month and is now on the road to recovery. Meanwhile, Emmanuel Agbadou, like Salah, is at AFCON with the Ivory Coast and will be back at some point next month.

Midfielder Jean Ricner-Bellegarde, who has been linked with a transfer move to Besiktas ahead of the upcoming transfer window, is out of action with a thigh issue. Marshall Munetsi is unavailable for the next few weeks as well.

"I had an injury recently, but my club, Wolves, communicated with the association that I was recovering well and even offered medical support to ensure that I could participate at the AFCON," he said.

"Unfortunately, I received no follow-up communication, and decisions were made without clarity-speculation which wasn't the case."

Left-back Hugo Bueno will need to be assessed. He trained on Monday and should be fit to play, but back-up goalkeeper Daniel Bentley has absent recently with a foot injury.

Wolves have other options in goal, such as Sam Johnstone and Jose Sa. Elsewhere, Leon Chiwome, a 19-year-old forward, has been out with a long-term ACL injury. It remains to be seen when he will play again.
