It was the same old story for Liverpool against Tottenham on Sunday. Once again, the Reds contrived to throw points away right at the death in what felt like the most predictable of outcomes.

That it was perennial pantomime villain Richarlison who came up with the goal to deny Liverpool all three points came as no surprise either. The boos at full-time told you all you need to know about how supporters are feeling about performances this season.

This latest capitulation came shortly after Arne Slot had addressed his side’s penchant for conceding late goals, providing the ultimate irony. The Liverpool boss is adamant though that this is a nothing but a freak season, and it won’t happen again.

“I do feel if only a few things would have been a bit more normal then we would have had many more points, but it’s not realistic for the way we’ve played this season to say that we would have been able to compete with Arsenal – they’ve been much better than us,” Slot said before ahead of the weekend.

“I heard for example one of the things, but I can come up again with these 10 things, but if the games would have ended after 90 minutes we would have been second at the moment.

“It’s part of football but it tells you that I’m 100 percent sure, usually I say 99.9 percent sure, but 100 percent sure this will never happen in the season again in the upcoming five or 10 years for Liverpool, that we’re conceding so many goals after 90 minutes.”

Liverpool fans’ patience is clearly wearing thin after seeing it happen so often this season, so Slot’s promise may not carry much weight at the moment. But if it he is to stay true to his word, then it’s clear the Reds are going to need to dip into the transfer market again.

A splurge like last summer is unlikely, but this season has shown there is plenty of work to do. Jeremy Jacquet is already on the way, but Liverpool can’t stop there, with plenty of names to be considered before the transfer window reopens…

Nico Schlotterbeck

Although Jacquet will be arriving, Liverpool could still do with signing another center-back — especially if Ibrahima Konate ends up leaving at the end of his contract.

A few names have been touted, with Borussia Dortmund's Nico Schlotterbeck one of the most prominent. The 26-year-old's current deal runs out in 2027, with Dortmund trying to tie him down to a new contract, although they may have to cut their losses this summer if they can't come to an agreement.

Liverpool would be far from the only team interested in the German international, with Real Madrid having also been linked with his services. Should Konate go to the Bernabeu though, that might open the door for Schlotterbeck to head to Anfield.

Micky van de Ven

If Schlotterbeck isn't available, then Micky van de Ven could be an alternative option at center-back. The Tottenham star was linked with Liverpool before he made the move to North London, and those rumors are building back up amid Spurs' struggles.

There is clearly some unrest at Tottenham, and not knowing who the manager will be next season can't be helping to settle any of the players that are there currently. And, should a shock relegation to the Championship occur, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Van de Ven and others on the move.

Whether Liverpool is actually interested right now is up for debate though, with suggestions that while Van de Ven would be keen on a move to Anfield, the feeling isn't quite mutual. He would command a hefty price tag, especially is Spurs stay up, and his performances this season have left a lot to be desired. No doubt he will continue to be linked heading into the summer though.

Adam Wharton

A big summer lies ahead at Crystal Palace. Stars like Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze have already left in recent windows, and manager Oliver Glasner will be following them out the exit door soon - and you wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't the only big name to depart Selhurst Park.

It does feel inevitable that Adam Wharton will get a big move soon. The 22-year-old has been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United, and it does feel like the next step in his career is just around the corner.

Midfield might not necessarily seem like an immediate priority for Liverpool, but with concerns over Alexis Mac Allister's recent performances, getting in a younger option like Wharton makes a lot of sense, and he would of course help with the homegrown quota.

Yan Diomande

A new winger feels like it is the priority heading into the summer. Mohamed Salah's powers have diminished, and Cody Gakpo has struggled to make the left-wing spot his own.

Who Liverpool turns to next will be a crucial decision, but one name does seem to towering above the rest at the moment - even at the age of just 19.

Yan Diomande is making huge waves in his debut season at RB Leipzig, and already he's being touted for a move to one of Europe's elite. Liverpool is being mentioned among those interested, and he is a signing that would make a lot of sense.

At the same time, he would be something of a gamble. Still a teenager and with just the one season in one of Europe's top leagues under his belt come the summer, the Reds would have to be certain he can live up to the hype that is following him.
