The January transfer window is just a couple of days away now, and while Arsenal were busy in the summer, they could also make waves in the winter market. The Gunners spent roughly £250m earlier this year, strengthening the options available to Mikel Arteta after an injury-hit season.
While injuries have struck the squad again, the north London side have been resilient thanks to their additions in the most recent transfer window. Given the number of players available, it seemed likely that Arsenal would have a quiet winter, but Arteta threw that idea into doubt.
The manager dropped a transfer bombshell when he was asked about the January market. When asked about possible defensive reinforcements, due to injuries, he said: "I don't know, we're going to be aware of the situation and the timescale of certain players, if going from the front line then to the back line, but that's the depth that you need.
"When you look across the other clubs as well, they have 24, 25 squad players, and so there's nothing especially in our squad, the thing is that although we have more injuries than expected, some of them not avoidable I would say. But we want to be better and we know how important the part of having the right availability with players is going to play in this season.
"Depending, as I said, on the availability of certain players, so the window is there, I mean, we're Arsenal and we have to be looking at it, OK, 'What do we need? We have to be actively looking, and then can we do it or not, that's a different story, but our job is to be always very prepared because something can happen, so hopefully very positive."
So, with that in mind, here's a look at some options Arsenal could sign in the January transfer window to bolster their squad options.
