Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo scored the first as Michael Carrick picked up his first win as interim head coach against Man City.

Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo has opened up on the changes at Old Trafford following the sacking of Ruben Amorim while he was away at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). While Mbeumo was competing with Cameroon at the international tournament, Amorim was sacked after the draw at Leeds.

He was replaced by Darren Fletcher for two games before Ineos appointed Michael Carrick as the club's interim head coach for the remainder of the Premier League season. His first task as boss was a Manchester derby.

This challenge was navigated successfully as United dominated neighbours Manchester City at Old Trafford. Mbeumo scored the first for United after a quick break from a City free kick. Patrick Dorgu made it 2-0 11 minutes later as he scored from close range to seal the win.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Mbeumo said: "Scoring in front of this stand is unbelievable. In a derby is even more. We used the energy of the fans today, this place was unbelievable. When I came back, a lot of things had changed, but we have a very good group.

"We’ve always been together, stick together. We have a fantastic unity, so it’s unbelievable. It’s not easy because we had only three days. We are all together, we tried to be as focused as possible today. Everyone was defending, everyone was attacking - it was a team effort today and a very good result."

United's victory keeps them in the hunt for a spot in the Champions League. Mbeumo's goal was his eighth in all competitions this season, making him the Reds' top goalscorer.
