PSG star Achraf Hakimi and his Morocco teammates will open up the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday against Comoros. Moreover, after suffering an injury due to a heavy tackle from Luis Diaz against Bayern Munich on November 24.

Hakimi had to be helped off the pitch after breaking down in tears when the injury occurred, struggling to place any weight on the left foot as medical staff assisted him in walking to the sideline. A VAR check soon followed, and Diaz was shown a straight red card.

Nonetheless, when that injury occurred, many wondered whether playing at AFCON was at risk. Despite the setback, Hakimi is ready to help Morocco, which is hosting the tournament, to win the competition and celebrate with the home crowd.

Furthermore, he’s willing to make a major sacrifice if needed.

Even as Hakimi steps into a leadership role for Morocco, the PSG right back remains willing to put the group first, even if that means sacrificing a spot to benefit the team.

“If I don’t have to play for the team to win, I will do that,” Hakimi said on Saturday while talking to the media (h/t Le10Sport). “I’m thinking about the group. If we win without me playing, that’s not a problem. I didn’t want to miss this competition. As soon as I got injured, I told the coach I would do everything to play with the group.”
