Alan Brazil reveals what his sources say about Tottenham talks with Mauricio Pochettino

Fresh insight has emerged over whether Tottenham Hotspur are actively pursuing a Mauricio Pochettino return, as speculation continues to swirl around the club’s next managerial move.

Tottenham Hotspur fans will hope their side can see out what has been a dismal Premier League season and avoid relegation.

Should that happen, supporters will demand far better next term, and that begins with the permanent managerial appointment.

Several names have been mentioned as favourites for the Tottenham job, with both Mauricio Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi viewed as Spurs’ top two candidates, while Marco Silva, Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola have also been linked as the club prepare to make a key decision ahead of next season.

Many Spurs fans have made it clear that Pochettino is their preferred appointment, as the Argentine’s name was sung during Thomas Frank’s final game in charge against Newcastle United.

Reports have also suggested that Tottenham are working behind the scenes to agree a deal with Pochettino.

However, Alan Brazil has now provided an update on whether the club have made any approach.

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, Brazil addressed the speculation and claimed there has been no contact. He said: “The latest is, they have not even spoken to him.

“So, I do not know what they are doing, and I do not think they know what they are doing.”

Spurs must resolve Premier League status before manager decision

This is unfamiliar territory for Tottenham, a side whose Premier League status has largely been secure over the past four decades.

There is no denying that decisions made at the top of the club have gradually led Spurs to their current position in the table.

In truth, Tottenham cannot realistically make a firm call on a permanent manager while their Premier League status remains uncertain.

If they were to drop into the Championship, their targets could change significantly as they deal with the financial impact of no longer being a Premier League club.

For now, the focus must remain on seeing the season out before any decision is made regarding a new manager.
