British radio station talkSPORT has confirmed that Manchester United legend Steve Bruce will step in for Alan Brazil, with the presenter still not well enough to return.

Brazil, 66, was taken off air mid-show last week after becoming unwell. Having begun his breakfast programme, he failed to return, with co-host Gabby Agbonlahor telling listeners: "You're listening to the talkSPORT Breakfast with me, Gabby. Big Alan Brazil is feeling a bit poorly, but he'll be back as soon as he can."

Katie Shanahan stepped in alongside former Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor, who recently mocked Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, and provided a further update. She said: "Alan Brazil is currently feeling a bit poorly, but don't worry, listeners, he's okay."

Brazil was anticipated to resume his duties as host of talkSPORT's breakfast show on Wednesday, but the station has confirmed a new plan.

Instead, Bruce has filled in during his absence and will be partnered by the popular broadcaster Ally McCoist.

Bruce, 65, has been without a managerial role since departing League One outfit Blackpool back in October. His stint at Bloomfield Road followed nearly two years out of the game after leaving West Brom.

Bruce has been a regular contributor on the station, so he will be familiar to listeners. talkSPORT is yet to confirm whether Brazil will be back to his usual schedule on Thursday.

Providing an update, he said: "Thanks for all of the messages I've received over the past couple of days.

"I'm fine, just have a wee ear infection, though one of my daughters said it sounds like a bad migraine!

"It's funny as it's often when Gabby is on with me! I will be back on Breakfast next week.

"Just six weeks to go until Cheltenham!"

Brazil has fronted talkSPORT's daily breakfast programme since the station launched in 2000. His responsibilities were scaled back in 2020, with Laura Woods joining him as co-presenter, while Jeff Stelling frequently shares the hosting duties.

Before turning to broadcasting, Brazil enjoyed a distinguished playing career. He had a successful stint with Ipswich before moving on to represent Tottenham, Manchester United, Coventry, and QPR.

Brazil also earned 13 caps for the Scottish national team, featuring at the 1982 World Cup.
