Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has backed Manchester City to win this season's FA Cup over Arsenal. The Gunners' Premier League title rivals breezed into the semi-finals on Saturday afternoon with a dominant 4-0 win over Liverpool.

An Erling Haaland hat-trick and an Antoine Semenyo finish kept City's hopes of a domestic double alive as they booked their place in the last four. The victory in Manchester followed their 2-0 win over Mikel Arteta's side in the Carabao Cup final before the international break.

City have lost their last two FA Cup finals, but are unbeaten in semi-finals since losing to the Reds 3-2 in 2022. Arsenal will now be hoping to join Guardiola's men at Wembley Stadium at the end of April, but must navigate a quarter-final tie at Championship side Southampton first on Saturday evening (8pm BST).

However, Shearer is backing City to lift their first FA Cup since 2023 after Saturday's impressive performance against Liverpool. In more positive news for Arsenal, though, the Match of the Day pundit tells Betfair that he does not think Guardiola's side will pip them to the league title.

He said: "It wouldn't surprise me if Man City won the FA Cup. They've already got one trophy in the bag.

"I don't think they're going to win the league. They can't win the Champions League.

"I know they’ve got a tough draw, but I do think with their history and with their experience, they may be the favourites to win it.

"Now they've got through the quarter-final against Liverpool, I think they'll win it."

Arsenal's disappointing League Cup defeat to City may have ended their hopes of an unprecedented quadruple, but the Gunners could still win a league, FA Cup and Champions League treble.

Arteta's side face Sporting in their European quarter-final tie before resuming their Premier League title bid next weekend at home to Bournemouth.

The Gunners are currently nine points clear of second-placed City, having played a game more than the Blues, who travel to Chelsea next Sunday. Both teams then face off in a potential title decider at the Etihad Stadium on April 19.
