Alan Shearer makes Premier League title prediction as Liverpool discovers fate

1 week ago 63

Alan Shearer has given his predictions for the upcoming Premier League season, suggesting that there may not be much change at either end of the table.

Last season, Liverpool dominated the league with its fast start and consistent performance. The Reds have made significant investments, including the British-record signing Florian Wirtz, in a bid to secure back-to-back titles.

The potential addition of Alexander Isak to Anfield has led Shearer to tip the Reds as champions once again. Leeds, Burnley, and Sunderland have returned to the top flight, hoping to break the recent trend of promoted teams being relegated straight away.

However, Shearer, speaking to Betfair, predicts that all three will only enjoy one year in the Premier League before returning to the Championship. This would mark the third consecutive year that the three promoted teams fail to maintain their top-flight status, highlighting the growing gap between the Premier League and the second tier.

Arsenal is predicted to finish second for the fourth consecutive year, a prediction that is unlikely to please Mikel Arteta. Despite significant investment, including the addition of Viktor Gyokeres as his No. 9, Arteta may still fall short of the title he so desperately seeks.

Manchester City had a disappointing season last term and is starting a year without Kevin De Bruyne for the first time in a decade. Despite bolstering its squad, Shearer believes City will finish in third again.

Manchester United, City's local rival, hit a new low last season but has brought in some significant attacking talent as Ruben Amorim seeks to drastically turn the club's fortunes around. The pundit anticipates an improved year, but not one that sees United return to the Champions League.

He believes that Chelsea and Newcastle - two clubs with vastly different summers - will both finish above the Red Devils. Newcastle's season could pivot on whether Isak stays or if the Magpies can secure a top-tier replacement.

Chelsea, on the other hand, has had no trouble bringing in attacking reinforcements. Nottingham Forest, last year's surprise package, will need to balance its domestic campaign with Europa League soccer.

This presents a fresh challenge, but Shearer still reckons Forest will remain in the top half of the table. Tottenham has entered a new phase, parting ways with Ange Postecoglou despite his success in Europe.

Thomas Frank faces a daunting task, but Shearer predicts Spurs will finish eighth, just behind Aston Villa. The Midlands club has reaped the benefits of having Unai Emery at the helm, but with such fierce competition at the top, Villa is expected to slip again.

Brentford now has Keith Andrews leading the charge and is tipped to narrowly escape relegation, finishing just above the bottom three in 17th place. West Ham is also predicted to have a challenging year, despite Graham Potter embarking on his first full season in charge in London.

For clubs like Everton and Crystal Palace, it's another year of secure mid-table football. Fulham, Wolves, and Bournemouth are expected to stay relatively safe. Brighton, sitting in 10th, might have anticipated more under Fabian Hurzeler.
