Alan Shearer uses Gianluigi Donnarumma example to perfectly sum up Alexander Isak transfer saga

4 hours ago 22

Alan Shearer has criticized Alexander Isak for his lack of loyalty amidst the ongoing dispute with Newcastle. The Swedish striker continues to be excluded from the first team after expressing a desire to leave the club for Liverpool.

Isak declined to accompany the club on their pre-season tour of Asia in an effort to expedite his departure. Shearer has now voiced his disapproval of Isak's actions.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, the Newcastle legend stated: "It has to have an effect on the group, there's no doubt about it. That's why there's such anger in Newcastle with the fans. You've got a bloke who's earning over a hundred grand a week. Yet you've got the average working man, who's shelling out for a ticket to watch a match and that's why it stings them so much.

"You've got a player who's played a massive role in one of Newcastle's best seasons ever yet with three years left on his contract says 'I don't want to play for you anymore'.

"Look, loyalty in football is a non-starter, neither from clubs or players - just look at the situation with Gianluigi Donnarumma and PSG this week.

"Look what's happened to him, the form he was in and what he did last year to help PSG achieve their dream, and yet the club comes to him and say, 'We're getting rid of you, we don't fancy you anymore, despite what you've done for us.'

"So, where's the loyalty there? I get clubs and football players; there is no loyalty, clubs look after themselves, and players look after themselves, but there's a way of doing things.

"The way that Alex [Isak] is doing this at the moment is not the right way. It's not a good look for him or his agent who obviously have got into him."

Alexander Isak

Shearer has slammed Alexander Isak for his behaviour

Isak was absent from the squad as Newcastle kicked off its campaign with a goalless stalemate against Aston Villa. With just over a fortnight left in the window, time is running out for the situation to reach a conclusion.

Liverpool has already seen one offer turned down, though Isak now seems convinced that his time at Newcastle has run its course.

Manager Eddie Howe struck a more positive tone however and remains willing to welcome the striker back into the fold eventually.

When questioned about whether he believes there could be a route back for Isak, Howe responded: "Yes, I believe there is.

"But, of course, discussions and talks would need to take place for that to happen. But, again, that's for another day. ".
