Alejandro Garnacho was superb as Chelsea battled past Wrexham in the FA Cup fifth round

Alejandro Garnacho believes Chelsea have a squad capable of competing for Champions League glory.

The Blues survived a huge scare in the FA Cup on Saturday night, needing extra-time to overcome Championship play-off hopefuls Wrexham but a quarter-final tie now awaits.

Former Manchester United star Garnacho was crucial in the 4-2 win, scoring the third goal in the additional 30-minute period to set the Blues on their way after Liam Rosenior rolled the dice by making nine changes to his squad.

Rosenior's side now turn their attention to a huge Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain, and will travel to Paris for the first leg of their last-16 tie on Wednesday.

With the testing European trip to come and the pressures of challenging for a top-five spot in the Premier League growing, Garnacho has called on every team-mate to play their part.

He said: "In football you need a full squad to win trophies because we play every three days. You have to trust in everyone, and we have great players. Now w'ere in the quarter finals, and we will try to win the FA Cup. It’s always good to win a trophy.

"We will recover now and be ready for Wednesday. We have a team to win, so we will try to do that."

A Blues side showing nine changes twice came from behind to scrape past Wrexham in a thrilling FA Cup contest.

Chelsea were lacklustre early on and fortunate to be level at half-time after Sam Smith’s opener was cancelled out by an Arthur Okonkwo own goal.

Wrexham reclaimed the lead after 78 minutes of a pulsating contest through Callum Doyle but Josh Acheampong levelled for a second time.

The sending-off of George Dobson then proved pivotal as Chelsea went on to win in extra time with goals from Garnacho and Joao Pedro, though Wrexham were denied a goal at 3-2 for a tight offside.

Garnacho was delighted that they battled back to book a last-eight date in the iconic competition.

He added: "It’s an incredible win. I think it was one of our hardest games of the season so far. It was a battle, and it’s always a fight when you have to come to this kind of stadium - it can be harder than a Premier League game at times.

"We have to be ready for everything when you play in this type of game. We have to be ready for every moment, and it was even more difficult going into extra time, but we saw it through. We’re proud today, and we’re in the next round."
