Alejandro Garnacho has struggled to get going since his £40million move to Chelsea from Manchester United, but his transfer value has almost doubled to £78.5m during his time at Stamford Bridge
Alejandro Garnacho's transfer value has increased despite his underwhelming start to life at Chelsea. The Argentine departed Manchester United to join the Blues in a deal worth £40million in August 2025.
Garnacho, 21, had pushed for an exit from United throughout the summer and secured his move just days before the window shut, with the winger putting pen to paper on a lucrative seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
But Garnacho has struggled to hit his stride since arriving at Chelsea, having netted eight goals and registered four assists across 38 appearances in all competitions. While those numbers don't look entirely dismal on paper, just one Premier League goal has come his way - and that came against Sunderland back in October.

He has found himself in and out of the Chelsea starting XI since Liam Rosenior's arrival in January, coming off the bench for the final 23 minutes against Manchester City on Sunday, with Pedro Neto preferred from the off.
Despite his struggles, Garnacho's market value has soared during his time at Stamford Bridge. According to the latest CIES Observatory figures, the winger is now valued at £78.5m - almost double what Chelsea forked out to sign him.
For context, Barcelona's Lamine Yamal tops the global rankings at approximately £350m, with Manchester City's Erling Haaland (£215m) second and Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe (£165m) third.
Those in Garnacho's price range include Brentford's Igor Thiago, Lyon's Endrick, Manchester United's Benjamin Sesko, Porto's Victor Froholdt and Leipzig's Yan Diomande.
However, Garnacho could find himself at a new club before next season gets under way. The Sun reported on Thursday that Chelsea are willing to sanction his departure in the summer, with head coach Rosenior understood to have doubts about the wide man, who has made just four Premier League starts in 2026.
Neto remains Rosenior's first-choice left winger, while the Blues also have Jamie Gittens - sidelined with a hamstring injury since January - as a further option out wide.
Garnacho was so eager to seal a move to Chelsea that his representatives visited Stamford Bridge in January 2025, a full eight months before his switch to west London was completed. The former Atletico Madrid man is represented by ex-Blues midfielder Enrique de Lucas, and Garnacho made several day trips to the capital during his final season at United.
Yet Garnacho hinted in an interview last week that he had some regrets over his conduct towards the end of his time at Old Trafford. "I remember in the last six months I was just not playing like before at Manchester United," he told Premier League productions.
"I started to be on the bench, it's not (such a) bad thing, I was only 20 years old, but in my mind it was like I had to play every game. In my mind, maybe it is also on me, I started to do some bad things. But yes, it was just this moment in life and sometimes you have to make decisions and I am really proud to be here and still in the Premier League at a club like this.
"Everyone knows the team we have and the things we can do. Sometimes, we have better moments or worse moments, I am proud to be here but with United, I have nothing wrong to say about the club, no one in the club or the teammates. It's just a moment in life that change and life continues. I have no regrets."
