The January transfer window has closed, but a host of quality free agents - including Raheem Sterling, Dele Alli, and Alex Oxalde-Chamberlain - remain available to sign

The January transfer window has now shut for all Premier League and EFL clubs.
However, a number of quality free agents remain clubless following the deadline. A relatively subdued window is now behind us after deadline day. Few marquee names changed clubs last month, with arguably the most significant transfer being Antoine Semenyo's move from Bournemouth to Manchester City.
Deadline day itself was similarly muted, with the biggest deal of the day being Jorgen Strand Larsen's switch from Wolves to Crystal Palace. Arne Slot failed to add anyone to his squad, although Jeremy Jacquet will be arriving from Rennes in the summer.

Raheem Sterling
Just days before the deadline, Raheem Sterling and Chelsea reached an agreement that terminated his contract by mutual consent.
The former Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal winger is now a free agent.

It will probably not be long before the four-time Premier League champion makes his comeback, and the 31-year-old represents a shrewd option for any side as a homegrown player who is no longer tied to extortionate wages.
Premier League clubs do have to register their squad for the remainder of the season by February 5, however.
Kurt Zouma
Former Chelsea and West Ham center-back Kurt Zouma only joined Romanian outfit CFR Cluj last September. But in January, his contract was terminated, and he is now a free agent.
At 31, he could still offer solid defensive reinforcement at the top level, and it was merely three years ago that he was appointed captain by The Hammers before gradually slipping out of first-team reckoning.
Jesse Lingard
Ex-England midfielder Jesse Lingard has been out of the limelight following a disappointing stint at Nottingham Forest. He spent nearly two years in South Korea for FC Seoul, having joined in 2024, but departed emotionally last December seeking a fresh opportunity.
Throughout the transfer window, speculation circulated regarding a Premier League return for the 33-year-old. But the former Manchester United and West Ham star remains available.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has remained clubless since August 2025 following his departure from Besiktas, though he's been keeping active. The former Arsenal player had been training with the Gunners to stay match-ready, with some reports even suggesting an improbable comeback.
However, more substantial reports brought Celtic into contention, with deadline day speculation suggesting the Scottish outfit might pursue the 32-year-old. There remains an opportunity for other clubs to make their move, though.
Aaron Ramsey
A player seeking game time ahead of crucial international matches is Aaron Ramsey. The Arsenal legend last turned out for Mexican outfit Pumas, where he endured just a few months due to fitness concerns and personal difficulties.
Wales face a World Cup play-off semi-final on the horizon, and Ramsey will be hoping to feature in Craig Bellamy's squad selection. At 35, he remains available, with his most recent British experience seeing him return to Cardiff and even briefly take charge as caretaker manager.
Dele Alli
The mercurial Dele Alli remains unattached after departing Italian outfit Como last September. Since that point, the ex-Tottenham midfielder has been working out independently ahead of an anticipated comeback.
At 29, he possesses considerable playing years remaining should he avoid premature retirement and like numerous other quality free agents, he counts as a homegrown player. Reports from January connected him with a Spanish switch, whilst speculation regarding Championship attention has also emerged.
Divock Origi
Liverpool's Champions League-winning cult figure, Divock Origi, represents another option for clubs seeking to secure a free agent. Following his permanent departure from the Reds in 2022, he has featured for AC Milan and Nottingham Forest on temporary deals.
Origi's Italian contract was cancelled by mutual consent in December, leaving him without a club since. While he may lack match sharpness and his salary expectations could prove steep, a player of the 30-year-old's calibre might justify a mid-season punt.
