Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has named the 2018 strike for Liverpool against Manchester City as his favorite goal from his career.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who joined Celtic last week, spent six years of his career at Liverpool and is still regarded fondly among supporters. He helped the club win every major honor in that period, including the Premier League and Champions League.

He played a particularly prominent role in the side’s progression and development during the early Jurgen Klopp years. That 2018 win over City was seen as a key milestone along that journey, with Liverpool dumping out Pep Guardiola’s team 5-1 on aggregate in the Champions League quarter-final.

The statement victory came in the season City claimed the Premier League title with 100 points, while Liverpool defied the odds to reach the Champions League final.

The Reds won 3-0 at Anfield in the first leg against City eight years ago, with Oxlade-Chamberlain scoring the second via a bullet strike from distance. During his signing interview at Celtic, the new arrival selected it as his all-time favorite goal.

It was certainly a memorable goal and night at Anfield, one that demonstrated the heights Liverpool could reach under Klopp.

Unfortunately, due to injury, Oxlade-Chamberlain was often a bystander in the glory years that would follow.

The midfielder suffered two serious knee issues, in addition to several recurring knocks.

Oxlade-Chamberlain played just 13 times in his final season at Liverpool, and didn’t make more than 30 appearances in any of his final three campaigns on Merseyside.

He left in 2023 and spent two seasons at Besiktas, where he played 50 times for the club. The former Arsenal star departed last summer, and after several months as a free agent, signed for Celtic earlier this month.

Oxlade-Chamberlain even netted the winning goal on his debut for the Hoops, when he scored in injury time against Livingston.

“We didn't look like we were going to get any reward at all and Alex scores this brilliant goal,” said Martin O’Neill after the game.

“When it left his foot, I could see it going in and that was a real delight. He's been a really fine player in his career, an excellent career. It's just a matter of him getting up to speed and I think that will come. He's naturally fit and hopefully he will be a big asset to us.

“He had a choice of a lot of teams. He's decided to come up here and help us out. He's done more than that, he's got us three points on the board.”
