Alexander Isak can grab dream shirt number at Liverpool if transfer goes through

8 hours ago 43

Liverpool still has some business to attend to in the transfer market, with one name persistently cropping up in the gossip columns.

Alexander Isak, currently at Newcastle, continues to be linked with a move to Anfield, and his future is making waves in the early stages of the Premier League season.

Earlier this month, Liverpool saw a bid for Isak rebuffed by Newcastle. As things stand, the Reds have no intention of tabling a second offer, given the decisive nature of the Magpies' rejection. Isak has been largely absent from the Newcastle squad throughout preseason, and manager Eddie Howe chose not to field him during the team's 1-1 draw against Aston Villa in the Premier League over the weekend.

Consequently, rumors continue to swirl about Liverpool potentially signing the Swedish international before the September 1 deadline.

Regardless of who Liverpool might bring in before the transfer window shuts, the team can offer the ideal welcome present ready for a new striker.

Since Darwin Nunez's departure earlier this month, the No. 9 shirt has remained unclaimed in the Reds' ranks.

With Isak strongly rumoured to be heading to Anfield, it could be the perfect welcoming gesture if a deal can be struck.

Liverpool also has the numbers 13, 16, 23, and 24 free for any new arrivals this summer, with the Reds also reportedly eyeing a new center-back and a wide forward before the transfer window closes.

Giovanni Leoni became Liverpool's eighth summer signing on Friday, joining from Parma.

The central defender has been handed the No. 15 shirt, which has been unoccupied since Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's departure in the summer of 2023.

"I’m very happy to be here. It’s a really great sensation and I’m honored to be here," Leoni told Liverpool's website.

"Yeah, a lot (of excitement). I’m so honored. I was very happy (about Liverpool being interested). When I saw this, I said, 'Wow, this is crazy.' I’m very happy."

He added: "I want to improve a lot with my new teammates in training and after on the pitch, in the Premier League and the Champions League.

"I’ll watch the game (against Bournemouth) in the stadium, see the game, and then after the game it’s a new journey."
