Alexander Isak was left out of Newcastle's squad to face Celtic on Saturday due to speculation surrounding his future.
The Magpies traveled to Glasgow for a pre-season friendly at Celtic Park, succumbing to a heavy 4-0 defeat by the Scottish champion.
William Osula led the line for Newcastle in Isak's absence, and Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was asked about Isak's omission after the game.
“It was my decision [to leave out Isak]," Howe said. "I decided to send him home due to all the speculation around him. The last thing he wanted was to be sat in the stands watching. That wasn’t fair to him. But I am confident he will be a Newcastle United player come the end of this window.”
