Alexander Isak's representative has addressed the Newcastle striker's future amid speculation linking him with Liverpool. It comes after he missed Newcastle's recent preseason game amid speculation regarding his future.
The 25-year-old has been the center of intense transfer speculation this week following Liverpool's approach to Newcastle regarding a potential British record deal. Arne Slot's outfit contacted Newcastle, expressing its willingness to strike a deal worth approximately £120 million ($161 million) for their prized striker.
Nevertheless, Newcastle maintained that Isak remains unavailable for transfer, prompting Liverpool to shift its focus towards Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike in a £70 million ($94M) move.
Isak's representative has now addressed his client's situation in the Saudi Arabian press - where the striker has also attracted interest from various clubs.
In an interview with Saudi Arabian publication Arriyadiyah, Gonzalo Gaitan revealed: "We are indeed studying and analyzing all options, and we may be close to finalizing the next step for the player.
"Without revealing any details regarding whether Isak will transfer or stay with Newcastle."
Eddie Howe confirmed that Isak was excluded from Newcastle's preseason loss to Celtic on Saturday due to ongoing speculation surrounding his future.
Following the match, Howe acknowledged that Isak's absence was down to the transfer rumours swirling around him - though he expressed doubt that the Swedish international would depart.
He explained: "It was my decision [to leave out Isak]. I decided to send him home due to all the speculation around him.
"The last thing he wanted was to be sat in the stands watching. That wasn't fair to him. But I am confident he will be a Newcastle United player come the end of this window.
"It's difficult for me to give 100 per cent clarity on any player. Alex is happy at Newcastle, he loves the players, the staff, the team. I'm confident he'll be here at the start of the season."
