Alexander Isak is en route to Merseyside for his medical, ahead of a record-shattering move to Liverpool.
The Reds are set to break the British record transfer if the Swede finalizes his move, following an agreement with Newcastle. The 25-year-old is poised to join the Premier League champion and current league leader during a pivotal time for the club.
With Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz making their respective departures from Anfield, Liverpool's attacking options have taken a hit. Isak has been selected in Jon Dahl Tomasson's squad for the upcoming international break, where Sweden will face Slovenia and Kosovo in the World Cup qualifiers.
His inclusion came as somewhat of a surprise after he failed to appear in any of Newcastle's first three Premier League matches, having trained away from the first-team since July.
All eyes will be on the forward when he finally signs a six-year contract at Anfield and makes his debut.
However, the Reds will need to be careful when introducing the record signing into the first team due to his lack of competitive play in recent months.
Liverpool will return to Premier League action with a visit to newly-promoted Burnley before its Champions League campaign begins with Atletico Madrid visiting on September 17.
Arne Slot's team faces a gruelling return to club soccer with five matches in 16 days.
That includes clashes against rivals Everton and Crystal Palace, before heading off to Galatasaray to wrap up the month.
Speaking about deadline day after Sunday's win against Arsenal, Slot said: "I always add to that 'for the right money and the right player,' but I don't know if that's happening at the moment.
"I'm just getting my emotions right after winning the game.
"I will hear probably tonight if anything will happen.
"If you look at Joe Gomez and Curtis Jones coming in today, it tells you that we already have a strong squad."
