Alexander Isak theory dismissed as Mohamed Salah relationship at Liverpool in spotlight

2 hours ago 1

Former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott is of the opinion that Liverpool will not require Alexander Isak's goals to clinch the Premier League title, thanks to Mohamed Salah. The Swedish striker is set to make his debut for the Reds following his record-breaking transfer from Newcastle United, against Burnley on Saturday.

Liverpool had a summer transfer window to remember, splashing out record sums, strengthening key positions and finally securing Isak after a protracted battle with his previous club, Newcastle United.

Despite remaining undefeated in the top flight under Arne Slot, with the most recent victory coming against potential title contenders Arsenal, Lescott believes it will be Salah's goals that will be crucial in Liverpool's title defense, despite the added firepower brought by Isak.

During an appearance on In The Mixer, a show sponsored by Sky Bet, Lescott was asked if he thought Isak would end up as Liverpool's top scorer this season. The ex-England international responded: "No way. Salah [will be].

"They will rotate Isak. Salah is not rotated. It has been proven that they don't need those goals from Isak because Salah will get you the goals to win the league.

"Salah is available every week. Isak hasn't done that yet, so they're going to have to manage that. They're going to have to be aware that, as good as Isak feels, they may have to shut him down because he may get injured or something like that.

"It's going to be interesting because I don't know if Salah has experienced that [at Liverpool]. He hasn't experienced someone who has been deemed on his level or potentially getting as many goals as him.

"[Sadio] Mane was willing to let Salah score more goals, and the team knew that it worked for the team. Same as [Roberto] Firmino. They were willing to create the chances, and Salah got the credit for the goals.

"Strikers are different. They have a different mentality. I don't know if Salah is going to be okay with Isak. He'll want to win the games more than he wants to win the accolades, but it's going to be something new for him.

"We can all speculate on what we think is going to happen. And we've seen Mane and Salah argue over certain things in the past, but we all also knew Salah was going to get more goals."

Joleon Lescott offered his verdict on the new recruit

Isak made his first appearance of the season n Monday evening as Sweden took on Kosovo in their second World Cup qualifier.

The 25 year old's nation had drawn their opening Group B fixture against Slovenia, and whilst they were anticipated to overcome Kosovo, they suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat.

Isak only saw 18 minutes of play and was reportedly met with boos from the crowd when he stepped onto the pitch at the Fadil Vokrri Stadium.

He received a yellow card less than 10 minutes after his introduction, and squandered a golden opportunity when he shot directly at the goalkeeper after being played through.

Liverpool's next match is an away game against Burnley on Sunday afternoon, where Isak is anticipated to be listed among the substitutes, potentially making his debut from the bench.
