Alexis Mac Allister’s father has played down reports linking his son with a move to Manchester United, insisting that the midfielder is waiting for a new contract offer at Liverpool.

Mac Allister has seen himself become the subject of sensational transfer speculation in recent days, with suggestions that United are considering a bid for the 27-year-old this summer.

The Argentina international is said to be on a list of players the Old Trafford club is keeping a close eye on as it looks to revamp its midfield this summer, with Casemiro leaving the club when his contract expires in June.

No player has moved directly between Liverpool and United since 1964, when Phil Chisnall left the Red Devils to move to Anfield. Gabriel Heinze tried to cross the divide in 2007, but found ihs path blocked before ultimately joining Real Madrid instead.

Mac Allister’s contract at Liverpool expires in 2028, by which time he will be 29, and he has previously suggested that a move to Spain would be of interest to him, with Real having been linked with his services.

In the seemingly unlikely scenario that United comes calling though, Mac Allister’s priority appears to be hearing what Liverpool has to offer first.

"Alexis is only thinking about Liverpool at the moment,” Mac Allister’s father Carlos told WinWin. “We are waiting for an offer to renew his contract. We will see what the club's plan is.”

Asked whether he would consider a move to anywhere other than Spain if a new contract isn’t forthcoming at Anfield, Mac Allister snr replied: "We'll wait and see what happens with the renewal. That's all.”

Carlos’ latest comments come after he addressed a potential move to Madrid earlier this month, and insisted his son remains happy on Merseyside.

"What I can say at the moment is that Alexis is focused on Liverpool and the current season... Alexis is very happy and very comfortable with Liverpool," he said.

The Times reported last month that Liverpool has been in contact with Mac Allister’s representatives over the structure of a future agreement, although no in-depth talks had been held at that point.

The club has been in discussions with fellow midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai over a new deal, although no progress has been made their either, while the Reds are also looking to tie down Ryan Gravenberch.

Speaking about the possibility of a transfer to Spain in the future, Mac Allister said back in December 2024: "It's a country I like a lot and I’ve visited it several times, and, above all, because of the language and the culture, it’s very similar to Argentina.

"I would definitely like to play in Spain one day. But right now, I’m very comfortable at Liverpool and I don’t think about what might happen in the future."
