Alisson Becker reveals what he joked with Federico Chiesa after late winner against Bournemouth

Alisson Becker has revealed his delight at Federico Chiesa scoring a decisive goal for Liverpool against Bournemouth last week, when the Italian put his side in front.

Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah then secured the points for good against the Cherries, with Antoine Semenyo having netted a brace in the second half to level things up. But it was Chiesa who nudged his team in front again, and the Italian's moment was one that had been a long time coming after a tough debut campaign.

"I think [the goal] shows that nothing is impossible if we can believe to the last second," Brazil goalkeeper Alisson told 'Men In Blazers.' "We have the players who can change the game if necessary.

"I’m never happy that I concede. But I told him, seeing that you are the guy who scored the goal, I have no problem conceding the [two] goals [that brought Bournemouth level]!"

Chiesa barely featured under Arne Slot in his first season at Liverpool. But now, fourth choice in the pecking order after Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez were sold, he could still have a future on Merseyside.

“It means a lot for us when a player like him, who is not playing so often, who didn’t play as much as he wanted to play, is not in the best moment of his life [is the one to score]," Alisson said.

Federico Chiesa netted a late goal for Liverpool against Bournemouth.

"When he comes in and scores that goal, the satisfaction that he shows us in his celebration shows a lot of his character, of his personality.

"He’s a guy who works so hard here every day with us. He’s always trying to help. He complains sometimes; every Italian does that!

"But he’s not a guy who complains in a negative way. He complains to make things better for everyone, not only for himself."

Chiesa could be involved again as Liverpool takes on Newcastle United on Monday. The Reds are still interested in Alexander Isak but so far, the Swede has proven unattainable.

"I think if you go to Newcastle, you know what to expect," Slot said ahead of the game. "We played them three times last season, and twice their intensity levels were above ours.

"In the away game, especially in the first 60 minutes, they were so, so, so intense and fully deserved to have the lead. In the League Cup final, they were more intense than us as well. So, I don't think they need anything to add for them to be intense if they play at St. James' Park."

Liverpool.com says: Chiesa could have a role to play for the Reds, but relying on him too often would not be a good idea. The Italian didn't play much in 2024/25 for a reason.
