Alisson ran the full length of the field to embrace Ibrahima Konate after the defender's emotional goal for Liverpool on Saturday.

Konate scored the final goal of Liverpool's 4-1 Premier League victory against Newcastle. The Magpies took the lead at Anfield when Anthony Gordon scored during the first half, but the Reds hit back immediately through Hugo Ekitike's quick-fire double.

Florian Wirtz scored Liverpool's third goal after the break before Konate, who was making his first appearance since the death of his father earlier this month, made it 4-1. The Frenchman did not appear in any of Liverpool's previous four games.

Konate was visibly emotional following the goal and wiped away the tears as he made his way back into Liverpool's half. But before then, Alisson made sure to run the full length of the field and give his grieving teammate a hug in front of the Kop.

Alisson knows what it's like to lose his father; his dad passed away in 2021.

The goalkeeper wasn't the only player to embrace and comfort Konate following his goal, as his team showed their support. The defender was asked about the emotional moment following a full-time interview with TNT Sports.

"For sure, I am very happy," said Konate. "I don't have words to describe what I feel right now because it was a very difficult moment for me and my family the last two weeks, but this is part of life. It is hard to accept that, and we don't have the choice.

"I know that the team had some injured players, and the manager on the call said to take my time, and I don't have to rush back.

"With this situation (injuries), it was important for me to come back and help the team. I did today with the team at Anfield, the atmosphere was incredible today, and this is what we need until the end of the season."

Konate also spoke about Wirtz, who registered another goal and assist against Newcastle. "I am very happy for him to be fair," he added.

"He just showed to the world his quality. He did not reach his peak, right now, but it is coming very soon.

"We spoke in preseason, what he is going to do, and if he reaches that, my god, it will be crazy."

Saturday's result is Liverpool's first Premier League win of 2026. The victory has lifted the Reds up to fifth in the Premier League table, one point behind Chelsea in fourth.

Konate continued: "We have to take game after game. For me, we are always the best team on the pitch, but we, maybe, concede too many goals or don't score enough. But today we did very well, and we have to take next game after next game."
