Arsenal have entered the 2025/26 campaign with plenty of optimism over ending their Premier League title drought.
Mikel Arteta's team began the new season with an unconvincing 1-0 win at Manchester United, yet three points are all that matter at such an early stage. The Gunners will be heavily fancied now to record consecutive victories when they host newly promoted Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening (5:30pm kick-off UK time).
And there will be hope that new Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres can get off the mark as he looks to provide Arteta's side with plenty of firepower this season. He is set to be joined by Eberechi Eze, who is closing in on a move to the Gunners from Crystal Palace, although he is unlikely to be registered in time for Saturday's game.
Below is a look at the latest Arsenal headlines as well as a view on each one.
Title tip
Arsenal legend Paul Merson has tipped Arsenal to win the Premier League title with the addition of Eze.
“Eze is a brilliant signing for Arsenal,” he told Sky Sports. “It’s a game-changer and a perfect fit.
“If they had let Spurs get him, I’d have had to question what the club was doing because he’s a quality player. Arsenal struggle when teams come to the Emirates and put everyone behind the ball. Teams want to limit the space Arsenal have to play in, and they have struggled to break teams down with those tactics.
“We’ve seen it over the last few years where they have struggled to break teams down when it gets right to the business end of a game and the business end of a season. For me, that’s where Eze comes in at Arsenal. He’s got the X-factor, and in tight, tight games, he has the ability to break a low block down.
“Away from home, maybe he’s not the answer. Against the likes of Liverpool and Man City, they may come under the cosh for a bit, and they may have to play slightly differently. But that’s why you have a big squad. At home, against the lesser teams, where they have 70 to 80 per cent of the ball, let Eze go and do what he wants because he will make something happen.
“I think Arsenal win the league with Eze. They had a chance without him because it’s a real heads or tails season with Liverpool, and Man City played well on the opening weekend, but Eze will help get them over the line.”
Isaac Seelochan of football.london says:"Eze will be a superb signing for Arsenal and one that should improve their attack. I still question, though, whether it will be enough to see off Manchester City and, particularly, Liverpool. I think they may still need a drop-off from both to win the title."
Rogers 'interest'
Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a move to sign Tottenham Hotspur-linked Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers.
Spurs are reportedly interested in the 23-year-old after appearing to miss out on Eze to the Gunners. However, reports in The Sun claim the Gunners could make a move before the summer window closes on September 1.
Isaac Seelochan of football.london says: "This would be absolutely brutal on Spurs if it happened. I can't imagine it will though with Villa under no pressure to sell."
