Andrea Berta told Arsenal summer transfer move that 'would make sense'

As Arsenal continue their chase for glory this season, another flying winger is being tipped to join them in the summer.

Arsenal signing Anthony Gordon this summer 'would make sense' according to Joe Cole, even though Mikel Arteta has already got two players for his position.

The Gunners are currently on course to win their first Premier League title in 23 years, and they are also still fighting for honours in the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Champions League.

The league leaders have not struggled scoring this season but former England midfielder Cole believes that adding Newcastle United star Gordon to their ranks would take them up another level.

Speaking about the prospect of Gordon joining Arsenal, exclusively to Paddy Power, Cole said: “I can see him fitting in there. He ticks the box of physicality for Arsenal. His mentality and physicality are top, plus he’s a winner.

"You’ve already got two very good players competing for that spot in [Gabriel] Martinelli and [Leandro] Trossard, but none of them tick the boxes [Anthony] Gordon does.

“Martinelli has a little bit of that physicality and mentality, and Trossard does score goals. Anthony Gordon would just give Mikel Arteta something different on that left side. But again, I just think it’s a case of another huge physical body coming into that squad. He’s a great player and it would make sense to me.”

Former Everton forward Gordon joined Newcastle in 2023 and has made 144 appearances for the Magpies, scoring 36 goals. The Merseyside-born England international came close to joining boyhood club Liverpool before the start of the 2024-25 season as Newcastle struggled to balance their Profitability and Sustainability books, but the deal never came to pass.

The 25-year-old has 10 goals to his name this season, but just three of those have come in the Premier League as Newcastle have languished in mid-table.

Brazilian Martinelli has scored just one Premier League goal in 23 appearances this season, whilst Trossard has returned five from 25 league run-outs.

Arsenal's top Premier League goal scorer this season is summer signing Viktor Gyokeres, with 10 goals.
