Andy Robertson could be set for an awkward reunion with Richarlison if the Liverpool defender completes his transfer to Tottenham.

The Reds left-back is in talks with Spurs after growing frustrated at the shortage of first-team opportunities under Arne Slot. He made what could be his final Liverpool appearance after coming off the bench during Saturday's 3-2 defeat at Bournemouth.

Robertson has had numerous battles with Richarlison over the years, from when they were Merseyside derby rivals in the Brazilian's Everton days. After one derby in October 2020, Robertson hit out at Richarlison and Toffees keeper Jordan Pickford for challenges on Thiago and Virgil van Dijk, respectively.

Pickford got away with his lunge on Van Dijk, who left the Dutch defender injured, early in the game. Richarlison wasn't so lucky when he was dismissed for a wild hack on Thiago, who escaped serious injury, late on as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

Robertson called out Richarlison's challenge as he discussed the failure to punish Pickford. He said: "The lads, when they came in at half-time, said it was a shocking challenge, so that's two they've done us with today.

"For me, it was the same as Richarlison's. The whistle had already gone and he went flying in. It's a red card. I can't comment on if Pickford's meant it or not. I think he's an honest lad and I don't think he would have.

"But it doesn't look good for Virg and I hope he comes back quickly. Losing a player like him is always tough, but from an incident like that, it makes it a wee bit tougher."

Robertson did concede such incidents were part and parcel of derbies. He added: "Look, that’s part of football, unfortunately. It's part of derbies, it's part of life. We'll all deal with it, we'll all support Virg for however long he's out for."

Struggling Spurs, who are in danger of being drawn into a relegation battle, had reportedly been looking to sign Robertson in the summer but have brought their interest forward.

Asked about the prospect of losing one of his most experienced players, Slot said after the Bournemouth loss: "I think I need all of my players," before refusing to be drawn further on Robertson's future.

Meanwhile, Liverpool skipper Van Dijk hopes Robertson stays put. He said: "Robbo is a very important member of our team and I want him to stay but whatever happens, let's see.

"Do I expect him to be here on Wednesday [for the Qarabag game in the Champions League]? That's not on me, is it? Let's speak about [my best memories of him] when [a move] happens."
