Andy Robertson said that the ongoing drama surrounding Mohamed Salah has created a "tough situation" at Liverpool.
Salah's incendiary chat with reporters in the mixed zone at Elland Road on Saturday has dominated the Premier League news agenda in recent days, and Arne Slot responded by dropping him from the squad for Tuesday's Champions League game against Inter Milan.
Slot's decision to leave Salah out against Inter was ultimately vindicated as Liverpool won 1-0, courtesy of a late Dominik Szoboszlai penalty.
Robertson, who joined Liverpool in the same summer that Salah moved to Anfield, was part of Liverpool's starting line-up against Inter, and he was asked after the game about the Salah situation.
"A tough situation," Robertson said. "We're talking about one of the greatest players to play for this club. I signed in the same window as him. Whatever has happened, happened. Internally, we're all together."
Asked about the prospect of continuing to play alongside Salah at Liverpool, amid the possibility of the Egyptian leaving Merseyside during the January transfer window, Robertson said: "That'll be up to other people, it's not up to me. I love playing with Mo Salah and I hope to continue playing with him."
Meanwhile, Robertson spoke of the importance of Liverpool clinching a much-needed win against Inter, which moved the Reds into the top eight of the Champions League standings.
Dominik Szoboszlai scored the winning goal from 12 yards after Liverpool was awarded a soft penalty for a tug on Florian Wirtz's shirt after a VAR review, but that decision perhaps evened things out after the Reds had a goal controversially disallowed for a handball in the first half.
"Huge result," Robertson added. "We knew we were coming to a tough place, to a team that's in a good moment. We had to show fight and dig in. The clean sheet was crucial and then we go and scored the goal.
"The handball for me, I think it took seven or eight minutes. If you do that, then you have to stick to the on-field decision. You have to stick to the decision. The penalty did look soft but that's given anywhere else on the pitch.
"We all needed it. We know the results and performances aren't good enough. It's important this club is in the Champions League. It was a huge result for all of us.
"We know how important being in that top eight is and avoiding a play-off. We got unlucky last season with who we drew [in the last 16 – Paris Saint-Germain]."
