Andy Robertson insists he hasn’t been appointed as Liverpool’s new vice-captain yet - although he has admitted to already receiving messages congratulating him on landing the role.
The Reds are currently without a deputy to captain Virgil van Dijk following the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid earlier this summer, although recent rumors have suggested Robertson has been handed the role.
Arne Slot has confirmed he has decided who will succeed Alexander-Arnold in the role next season, although the Liverpool boss refused to name who he had picked when pressed on the matter after the Reds’ 4-2 defeat to AC Milan on Saturday.
Liverpool has plenty of contenders to become the next vice-captain, with Robertson part of a leadership group that also includes Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker, while Alexis Mac Allister joined the collective last year.
Although Robertson is rumored to have been given the official role for next season, the left-back is still not giving anything away at the moment - even though he has already received messages of congratulations.
“I’ve seen rumors and I’ve had texts and people congratulating me but I’ve not heard anything!” Robertson told The Anfield Wrap.

“We’re obviously part of the leadership group, me, Mo and Ali, and obviously Virgil being captain. The manager’s not spoken to any of us yet, and obviously we’ve lost Trent as vice-captain, so that role’s available.
“But we do what we do, the four of us are a good, tight-knit group, I spoke about it the other day in terms of helping the new lads come in, and that’s what you’ve got to do. You’ve got to help them come in, you’ve got to help the young lads like Trey (Nyoni) and Rio (Ngumoha) to develop.
“We’ve been at this club a long time now, we know what it takes, and we know how hard it is as well to keep the levels as high as fans expect, but if we can give them a little bit of knowledge, then it can help them on their way, and I think they’re all taking that on board.”
Slot also refused to give anything away when asked about his new vice-captain, although the Liverpool boss has confirmed that his mind is made up.
"It’s not like there’s a vacancy; it’s true that Trent [Alexander-Arnold] left the club, but Virgil and Trent already got the help from others as well last season,” Slot said in his press conference after the defeat to Milan.
"I think there’s enough leadership in the group at the moment. It is probably already decided, but I’m not telling it here yet who will be the new vice-captain, but it’s clear we have more than a few that can take that role."
