Mohamed Salah's postgame rant at Elland Road included a dig back at Jamie Carragher, after recent criticisms of the Egyptian by the former Liverpool center-back.
"Tomorrow Carragher is going to go for me again and again and that’s fine," the 33-year-old said as he produced an astonishing outburst in the mixed zone following Liverpool's 3-3 draw with Leeds.
Salah was clearly referencing the stick he received from Carragher in November, when the Sky Sports pundit called on Salah to front up to the media amid Liverpool's poor run of form.
"A year ago this weekend, Mo Salah wasn't shy in speaking about his own situation and the club not offering him a contract," Carragher said after the recent 4-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven.
"I only ever hear Salah speak when he gets man of the match or when he needs a new contract.
"I would like to see Salah as one of the leaders and legends of Liverpool come out and speak for the team."
That wasn't the first time that Carragher had criticized Salah for his interactions with the media.
Last November, Carragher slated Salah after Liverpool's No. 11 said he was "more out [of Liverpool] than in" during a rare voluntary chat with journalists at Southampton, amid his contract stand-off which rumbled on for the majority of last season.
"I must say, I am very disappointed with Mo Salah," Carragher said at the time. "That interview last night... Liverpool have [games against] Real Madrid in midweek and Manchester City next weekend. That's the story for Liverpool right now.
"And Mo Salah, we're aware — certainly the local reporters near the club — that in seven years he's stopped in the mixed zone twice. That's absolutely fine.
"But he stops for the third time away at Southampton on the back of winning Liverpool the game and putting that out.
"If he continues to put comments out or his agent continues to put cryptic tweets out, that is selfish. That's thinking about themselves and not the football club."
Andy Robertson was asked at the time about how those comments from Carragher had gone down with the Liverpool players, and – giving a taste of what may well be going on in the locker room right now – Robertson simply responded: "He's [Carragher] been getting a bit of stick in the dressing room this week, that's for sure!"
