Ange Postecoglou has been out of work since October, when he was sacked by Nottingham Forest, following his Europa League triumph with Tottenham last season

Ange Postecoglou has made it clear he would prefer to start his next job at the beginning of pre-season.

The Aussie boss lasted just 39 days in charge of Nottingham Forest, he arrived at the City Ground last September but was sacked in October following an eight-match winless run, earlier this term but he notes he found it difficult taking up the role mid-season.

In his view, he would favour the chance to implement his ideas during the off-season, moving forward.

Postecoglou, speaking in a wide-ranging interview with Melbourne-based radio station SEN 1116, said when discussing his next venture: "Well the best case scenario is, I've kind of figured out, for me to do what I want to try and do, the start of pre-season is a good starting point.

"Jumping in mid-season, especially in the Premier League but in most leagues is probably too much of a challenge for the way I do things.

"That's what I'm kind of holding out for, where that is and what that looks like, hard to say at the moment. Like I said, I haven't even scratched the surface yet in terms of what I want to do over here, the impact I want to make, the football I want to play.

"I want to win things still and I've still got that drive and passion to achieve, that hasn't changed. And the fact now, this is probably the first time I'm coming off a bad experience, that's just more fuel for me mate, that's brilliant.

"Because wherever I go there will be plenty of scepticism around the place and that's brilliant, that's exactly what I need to put the gloves on and put the helmet on again to go really hard.

"I've got an idea what it looks like and part of that is sort of making sure the people that I work with are ready for what I'm going to deliver.

"And also I see the ambition in them, I know whatever it is going to be, I've got this thing in my head that it will be the best one I've done yet because the recent experiences, maybe I needed them, you can't always be flying high and successful.

"Sometimes you need to cop a couple of whacks. I still feel like what I do still has an impact at this level. I’m not done yet, mate! There’s still a bit to do.”

Tottenham are currently thought to be assessing the position of interim head coach Igor Tudor following Sunday's 3-0 Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest.

The situation is delicate and sensitive, however, as Tudor is currently mourning the passing of his father, Mario.

Speaking to TNT Sports earlier this month, Postecoglou declined to comment when he was asked whether he'd be open to a sensational return to Tottenham.

He left Spurs at the end of the 2024-25 campaign after guiding the north London club to Europa League glory in Bilbao, ending their exhausting 17-year wait for silverware.
