Ange Postecoglou tipped for swift Tottenham reunion as shock manager change 'considered'

2 hours ago 2

Former Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou could be back in the Premier League very soon following a brutally honest admission from another ex-Spurs man.

Despite winning the Europa League back in May, the 59-year-old was relieved of his duties in north London after two seasons in charge with the more recent Premier League campaign a particularly disappointing one as Tottenham finished seventeenth.

Daniel Levy opted to bring in Thomas Frank as his replacement and the Dane got off to a strong start last Saturday as Spurs beat newly-promoted Burnley 3-0. Unfortunately, that bright opening has been overshadowed by Arsenal swooping in at the last minute to hijack Spurs' move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

That is the second transfer disaster that Tottenham have had to endure this summer with a deal to sign Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White, who later signed a new contract, called off due to the belief an illegal approach was made. Forest also got off to a positive start last weekend as they beat Brentford 3-1.

However, things are not quite so rosy at the City Ground with head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, who was in charge of Spurs for a few months back in 2021, admitting that things have changed with the club's owner Evangelos Marinakis.

"I always had a very good relationship with the owner - last season we were very close and spoke on a daily basis," he revealed in a press conference on Friday.

"This season it is not so well [between us] but I always believe that dialogue is important because my concern is the squad and the season we have ahead of us. Our relationship has changed and we are not as close.

"No, it is not good [that the relationship has changed]. I think everybody at the club should be together but this not the reality." With a departure for Nuno now a real possibility, Forest could be in the process of identifying potential replacements.

According to Italian journalist Matteo Moretto, Postecoglou is one of the names under consideration. If Marinakis has a significant say in who will come in, it is not too surprising that Postecoglou is emerging as a contender given the glowing verdict he received from the Forest owner just a few months ago.

“What I want to say about Ange is that he has spoken about Greece many times, he is proud to be Greek and in the great success he had with Tottenham by winning the Europa League, he spoke about Greece," he said via Greek news website Neos Kosmos.

"A man who not only does not hide his origin but is also proud of it. What he achieved, he did with a team that has not won any titles, it has had a very difficult time in recent years. In this huge success that the whole world saw, he promoted Greece.

"We must thank him especially for this and we wish him well, although we are sure that he will do well as he has the ability. Wherever he goes, the successes will come.”

If Postecoglou was to join Forest, he would reunite with his former colleagues in mid-December before returning to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in March 2026.
