Liverpool would be "crazy" to fork out £75 million ($101.4 million) for Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon this summer.
That's the blunt assessment from talkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist, who has raised doubts over why Liverpool and other clubs — including Bayern Munich — would splash such substantial cash on a player who wouldn't be guaranteed a starting berth.
Newcastle chief executive David Hopkinson acknowledged last month that the Magpies might offload one or two of their star names this summer, though he stressed they would do so on their own terms. Nevertheless, that has sparked chatter in recruitment circles, with interest in Gordon, whom Newcastle snapped up for £40 million ($54.1 million) back in 2023, expected to be considerable.

Gordon has netted 17 goals this season, though 10 of those have come from the penalty spot, and he's faced criticism for being overly inconsistent this term.
While McCoist maintains Newcastle must demonstrate it has absorbed the lessons from last summer's Alexander Isak saga and act decisively on whatever decision it reaches regarding Gordon's future, he reckons Newcastle supporters won't be overly heartbroken to see him depart Tyneside.

"I wouldn't be paying £75 million for him. No way," McCoist told talkSPORT. "Even more so if I was Bayern Munich, because he's not going to start. Why are you going to pay £75 million for a backup? I mean, where is he going to play?
"He's not going to get in before Olise, Diaz, [Serge] Gnaby, Harry Kane, Musiala. I'm sorry, and I like him, but he ain't getting in there. So, in answer to the question, I think it would be crazy to pay £75 million for somebody.
"I said I didn't think that too many Newcastle supporters would be up in arms if he left. I think that would generally be the case. But they cannot get their fingers burnt again like they did with Isak."
Gordon was absent from Saturday's 2-1 loss to Bournemouth due to a slight hip flexor problem, though there's optimism he'll be available for this weekend's Arsenal clash.
While McCoist acknowledges Bayern's approach may have affected his focus, he's called on Gordon to demonstrate his dedication to Newcastle until the season's conclusion.
"You knuckle down and work until somebody comes to you and says something. That's what you do," McCoist added.
"You work and you get on and do your training and play the best you can every time you pull on a Newcastle jersey - unless Eddie Howe or somebody comes and says something to you, that's exactly what you do.
"But I don't think there's any doubt his head probably would be turned if somebody like Bayern Munich came in."
