Arsenal suffered defeat against Man City at Wembley Stadium, but still lead their rivals in the race for the Premier League title

Manchester City’s Antoine Semenyo has said that Sunday's Carabao Cup final victory gives his side a boost in the title race with Arsenal.

The Gunners were aiming to lift the first silverware on offer this season and keep themselves in the hunt for a possible quadruple. However, City had other ideas.

A double from Nico O’Reilly saw Arsenal fall to a 2-0 loss at Wembley Stadium. It left Arsenal players watching City’s celebrations in the royal box from the pitch.

The defeat has raised debate over the impact that it could have on the Premier League title race between now and the end of the season.

Arsenal are currently nine points ahead of City at the top of the Premier League. City do however, have a game in hand and the two teams will face each other again before the end of the season.

Speaking to Sky Sports after lifting the trophy, Semenyo was asked about the impact the victory could have on the title race.

"I think it gives us a boost, it gives us confidence coming back from the international break and hopefully catching up,” he said.

“I feel like I don't want to say too much because momentum can swing very quickly, so we just have to do our jobs leading up to that game and hopefully we can finish off the job, potentially."

While there is a lot of talk over the Premier League, Arsenal are involved in two other competitions before they return to league action.

After the international break, the Gunners travel to take on Championship side Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-final on Saturday, April 4 (8pm).

They then travel to Portugal for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Sporting CP. They return to Premier League action on April 11 (12.30pm), when they host Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium.

City are also in FA Cup quarter-final action after the international break, with a home clash against Liverpool. They then travel to take on Chelsea in the Premier League on April 12.
