Antoine Semenyo's contract with Bournemouth contains a £65million release clause, news which has sparked a frenzy amid links to a number of Premier League clubs
Antoine Semenyo's love for Arsenal has resurfaced after the Bournemouth star was tipped for a January transfer. Semenyo, 25, will see his £65million release clause become active in the winter window, sparking feverish speculation over his future.
The forward only signed a new contract with Bournemouth in July, keeping him at the Vitality Stadium until 2030. But his deal contains an exit clause worth £65m, news which has put Premier League clubs on high alert.
Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham have been most prominently linked with Semenyo, who's scored six goals and provided three assists in 12 Premier League appearances this season. But it turns out that the London-born Ghana international supports Arsenal.
"I am an Arsenal fan," Semenyo told the Athletic in 2024. "I don't conflict the two with my job.
"It is great to play against Arsenal, a team I have watched all my life and I want to play for the top clubs as well. In order for that to happen, I need to prove it."
Semenyo continued: "Any team that plays Champions League, Europa (League) - that's the aim. I know that's not going to come with a click of my fingers, it's going to take some time.
"It's going to take goals. It's going to take a lot of consistent performances. But I've worked all my life for that and I'm just going to continue working hard. That's my mentality."
Bournemouth won't be able to stand his way if a club comes knocking in January, so long as the buyer triggers his clause within the first two weeks of the month. Tim Bezbatchenko, the Cherries' general manager, recently confessed that he'd struggle to deny Semenyo a move to a top-tier club.
"When a club like Real Madrid, Liverpool, PSG come in and they're competing for Champions League positions, who are we to say, 'No, you can't go, you can't fulfil your dream'," Bezbatchenko admitted on the Business of Sport podcast.
"No it wouldn't be like that for all clubs because not everyone is Real Madrid. But there is an opportunity and everybody wins right? I think that's what we're trying to find, this commonality where everybody can win."
Arsenal fans may well remember Semenyo scoring against Mikel Arteta's side at the Emirates last season, as Bournemouth won 2-1. The Gunners will have to wait until January 3 to play Bournemouth for the first time this term, as they'll start their 2026 on the south coast.
