Arne Slot and Liverpool sack admission made as Arsenal icon blasts Liam Rosenior

Paul Merson has been speaking about Liam Rosenior and his future at Stamford Bridge, with the former Arsenal midfielder sharing a brutal verdict on the Blues head coach

Paul Merson has brutally questioned Liam Rosenior's capability to manage Chelsea after a torrid 10-day period for the Blues head coach.

In the space of a week-and-a-half, Chelsea lost four matches - in all competitions - on the bounce. The two defeats to Paris Saint-Germain were understandable given the level of opposition, though the manner of the losses were massively criticised. However, the back-to-back defeats in the Premier League to Newcastle United and Everton - where Chelsea failed to score in both games - went down less well.

In his opening 19 matches as Blues head coach, Rosenior has won 10, lost seven and drawn twice, with Chelsea now in an intense battle to qualify for next season's Champions League. Another side in the race to be in Europe's elite competition are Liverpool, who lost to Brighton on Saturday afternoon, putting Arne Slot under more pressure.

Merson has questioned whether Rosenior would even get an interview for the Liverpool job if Slot was to be sacked. In his latest Sky Sports column, Merson said: "It's been a bad month for Liam Rosenior at Chelsea. That's four games on the trot where they've been smacked. They can't win one game.

"There are ways of losing football matches and that was a horrible, horrible watch at Everton. It didn't look to me that the players were really on the same page as the manager.

"If Arne Slot got the sack at Liverpool this week, or if Eddie Howe left Newcastle, would Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior have got one of those two jobs? I'll go one further: would he even get an interview? It's madness.

"This Chelsea team don't sit pretty at all with the fans, who have put Rosenior under pressure from day one. But the board - whatever plan they've got - you'd think Rosenior would need to get into the top five for them to be happy."
