Ryan Gravenberch and Arne Slot both feel that Liverpool can turn things around in the Champions League next week, with Galatasaray holding a 1-0 lead as it heads to Anfield

Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch admitted that his side's performance in the Champions League was "not enough" as the Reds lost another game in disappointing fashion.

Mario Lemina scored the only goal of the game as Galatasaray established a lead in the tie but Gravenberch believes Liverpool will show a different side of itself in the second fixture.

"If you come here, you know it will be a tough game, and if you play like this it's not enough," Gravenberch said. "But we know it's only the first game. We have the second game at Anfield and we have to turn it around there."

It was a sentiment that head coach Arne Slot agreed with. Once more, his team failed to get control of proceedings, and Liverpool paid the price for being wasteful in front of goal while conceding far too many chances.

"You play over two games against each other and now it's half-time, they are 1-0 up," Slot said after Liverpool lost in Istanbul.

"We can do better, I'm 100 per cent sure about that, but even with the game we played we had enough chances to score goals.

"We didn't. But next week we play at Anfield and our fans will be so supportive for us. That was the situation for Galatasaray today; they had great support from their fans.

"It was difficult for us to play in and difficult for another person on the pitch to manage the game. So, let's hope we can create the same atmosphere next week at Anfield."

This is not the first time that Liverpool has lost away in Turkiye this season. The Reds lost by the same scoreline against Galatasaray back in September.

On that occasion, Victor Osimhen was the only goalscorer, and he caused Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk problems again.

"There were a lot of similarities between three months ago and now," Slot said. "We had multiple chances to score. After 10, 15 minutes you expect us to lead and then their first attack leads to a set-piece goal.

"Last time was a penalty, now it was a set-piece goal. And another goal disallowed from us. So, yeah, a lot of similarities."

Liverpool has Tottenham at the weekend before the return leg in Europe. It then travels to Brighton for the last game before the March international break and will return with an FA Cup trip to Manchester City.
