If Arne Slot's first summer transfer window at Liverpool was largely unremarkable, 2025 was a stark contrast.
The Reds splashed out more than $500 million on fresh talent, with Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and Hugo Ekitike among the marquee signings. Liverpool's chiefs also ensured they raked in substantial funds to offset this record-breaking expenditure.
The Merseyside club pocketed more than $300 million from sales during the window, as players like Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and others exited the club. Despite their squad now appearing robust, another hectic summer could be on the horizon for the Reds, with several key players' contracts set to expire next June.
One of the most notable is long-standing left-back Andy Robertson. The Scottish defender's contract only runs until 2026, and if he doesn't pen a new deal before then, he'll be free to leave.
Robertson has already been rumored to be considering a move away from Anfield this summer, with Atletico Madrid showing interest following the arrival of Milos Kerkez.
However, Slot seems to have placed his trust in Robertson, appointing him as the club's vice-captain and allowing Kostas Tsimikas to go on loan to Roma.
"He has played here so many years, won the league twice," he said of the decision. "It was Virgil, Trent, Robbo, and Mo [Salah] last season.
"Trent left, so there are a lot of logical reasons for the decision. [Robertson] is a very good player, plays many games, knows what it takes, but also knows the culture of the club and the dressing room.
"Apart from all the quality he shows on the pitch, he plays also a big role in the culture we have here at this club, which is, as I said many times last season, the biggest gift I could get from Jurgen [Klopp].
"That's also something we definitely have to keep for my successor to have, this same culture, if I am ever leaving this club."
Robertson's defensive partner, Ibrahima Konate, is also approaching the end of his current deal next summer. The French defender has already been speculatively linked with a potential free transfer to Real Madrid.
Whilst both Robertson and Konate bring valuable experience, securing teenage prodigy Rio Ngumoha to fresh terms will also be a key priority.
The 16-year-old delivered a remarkably impressive preseason campaign before surpassing expectations with his dramatic late winner against Newcastle in August.
Currently operating under a scholarship agreement, he is now poised to commit to professional terms, having celebrated his 17th birthday shortly before the summer transfer window concluded.
One player the club might be content to part ways with is academy product Rhys Williams. The central defender made his breakthrough during the 2020/21 campaign but hasn't featured for the senior squad since that period.
He has subsequently embarked on five separate loan moves, with his latest stint taking him to League Two outfit Morecambe last season. The last player whose contract is due to expire is actually one of Liverpool's summer acquisitions.
Goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, who joined the Reds on a free transfer from Preston and signed a one-year contract, could potentially stay at Anfield for an additional year as Liverpool has the option to extend his deal.
