Liverpool have no intention of allowing any senior players to exit this window with reports in Italy suggesting Inter were willing to offer a loan move with a view to a £35million transfer for Jones, who is out of contract in less than 18 months.

Arne Slot has hinted that Liverpool are looking to bolster, not diminish, their squad ahead of Monday's transfer deadline.

This week, the Reds dismissed interest from Inter Milan in Curtis Jones, having already ended discussions with Tottenham Hotspur regarding a potential exit for Andy Robertson. Liverpool have no plans to let any senior players leave during this window.

It comes despite reports from Italy suggesting Inter were prepared to propose a loan deal with an option for a permanent transfer for Jones, whose contract expires in less than 18 months. Liverpool has also opened talks over a move for Lutsharel Geertruida, who is on loan at Sunderland, before the window shuts.

When questioned about Jones – who was a substitute in Saturday's 4-1 Premier League victory over Newcastle United at home – Slot suggested any significant transfer activity would be incoming.

"I think there's always a lot of talk about Liverpool and Liverpool players," said the Reds' boss, reports the Liverpool Echo.

"There was a lot of noise around the club the last week or should I say weeks, but today our fans showed what noise really means. That is being loud, they were so helpful today, that is what noise here is in Liverpool.

"We are trying to strengthen the squad and not trying to weaken it. But yeah, 48-72 hours to go, let us see where the window ends up."

A brace from Hugo Ekitike and second-half goals from Florian Wirtz and Ibrahima Konate cancelled out Anthony Gordon's opener as Liverpool maintained their strong comeback following last weekend's 3-2 loss at Bournemouth, having thrashed Qarabag 6-0 at home in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Slot stated: "We are an industry where it is all about results. I asked after the Bournemouth game to the players and told you as well that we have to improve in both boxes.

"Because in between we do things at such a high level, and in the last two games scoring 10 and only conceding one, I can safely say that has been a big improvement.

"I am pleased and happy we have these two results, but because of the many points we have dropped, we are also aware that this certainly not enough."
