Arne Slot admitted he wanted to make more changes for Saturday's Premier League clash against Fulham but had to select certain players as he was "out of options".
Slot made five changes for the match, which is sandwiched in between the Champions League double header against Paris Saint-Germain. That included the return of Mohamed Salah, who was not even called off the bench in the midweek loss in France.
Andy Robertson, Curtis Jones, Cody Gakpo and Rio Ngumoha also started, with Joe Gomez, Milos Kerkez, ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Hugo Ekitike dropping to the bench.
"Yeah, indeed we made five changes, I think that made complete sense after the week we've had that has been very demanding physically and mentally and only a two-day turnaround again with everything that that's coming up for us this week," he told Sky Sports before the game.
"So I tried to use the training session yesterday to see who was well enough recovered and who wasn't and some of them just have to play again because I'm out of options in those positions."
