Arne Slot has all but ruled Jeremie Frimpong out of Liverpool’s game against Newcastle at the weekend as the Reds now face a nervous wait over his injury.
Frimpong was forced off just three minutes into Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Qarabag on Wednesday. The 25-year-old held his hamstring as he went down and looked distraught as he left the pitch, having suffered a similar injury earlier on in the season.
His injury adds to Liverpool’s worries, with the Reds’ crisis at the back deepening. Slot was already without Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, Giovanni Leoni and Conor Bradley for the final league phase encounter, which his side won comfortably 6-0.

The Netherlands international missed around two months of action when he suffered another hamstring injury against Eintracht Frankfurt back in October, and the sight of him limping off again wasn’t too promising, with his involvement at the weekend almost certainly out of the question now.
"It's obvious when he goes out like that we don't expect him to play against Newcastle on Saturday,” Slot said post-match (via ESPN’s Beth Lindop).

There is no word yet on how long Frimpong could be out for, although if it is confirmed to be a hamstring injury, it’s likely he will face another lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Frimpong’s withdrawal did put a bit of a dampener on what was another good night for Liverpool in Europe. The Reds end the league phase in third place, which sees them go straight through to the last-16 without the need for an extra play-off round.
“I don’t think we had a bad five or six minutes,” Slot told TNT Sports after the win over Qarabag.

“That’s actually all we have during the other games, five, six, seven or eight difficult minutes where we then usually concede.
“Today, we didn’t have that seven or eight minutes, and as a result of that we didn’t concede.
“The last minute, I really liked, 6-0 up, they had one counter-attack, and I saw all my players back in their box, and I’ve said many times if we improve in both boxes, there’s a lot, a lot to play for for this team, even if we have a few injuries, it’s harder for us than some other teams in this league.”
