Arne Slot has addressed Alisson Becker’s absence after the goalkeeper left Liverpool’s tour of Asia early this week.
It was announced on Tuesday that the 32-year-old had left Japan ahead of the Reds’ friendly against Yokohama F Marinos, having also missed the most recent training session. The Brazilian had played his first pre-season game in Saturday's defeat to AC Milan.
His absence resulted in new arrival Giorgi Mamardashvili being handed the gloves for Wednesday’s friendly, with Liverpool boss Slot addressing Alisson’s absence when speaking to LFCTV ahead of the game at the Nissan Stadium. "He had to go back to Brazil for private reasons,” Slot said.
“That's far from ideal – first of all for the private reasons, second of all for him to not be there in a game like this and in pre-season it's also not ideal if you miss out on part of the pre-season. But again, private life is more important in these matters than joining a game today."
Reports this week indicated that Alisson would rejoin the rest of his teammates for training when they return to the UK, with Liverpool set to take on Athletic Bilbao in a double header at Anfield on August 4.
Alisson became the third player to leave the Reds’ tour early, with Joe Gomez having returned to the UK after picking up an injury.
The defender is continuing his recovery back at home, although it is thought to only be a minor problem, with Gomez hoped to be able to return to action soon.
Meanwhile, Luis Diaz departed the tour on Monday in order to complete his transfer to Bayern Munich, which has now been confirmed.

The winger underwent a medical on Tuesday before being unveiled on Wednesday, with Liverpool having agreed an $88 million deal with Bayern.
"I'm very happy, it means a lot to me to be part of FC Bayern - they're one of the biggest clubs in the world,” Diaz said after signing for the German giant.
“I want to help my new team with my way of playing football and my character. My goal is to win every possible title, and that's what we'll work for every day as a team."
Liverpool.com says: Hopefully Alisson will be able to return soon, but the goalkeeper will rightfully be given as much time as he needs to deal with his personal matters. He will remain the Reds’ No.1 when he’s ready to come back.
