Arne Slot has provided an update on the condition of Giorgi Mamardashvili after the goalkeeper was forced off injured during Liverpool’s dramatic derby win over Everton.
The 25-year-old Georgian has been Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper since Alisson was sidelined with a hamstring injury last month. However, Mamardashvili now faces a spell on the sidelines himself after being stretchered off by Liverpool’s medical staff following Everton’s equaliser in the second half.
The incident occurred when Everton striker Beto levelled the score with a close-range finish in the 54th minute, colliding with Mamardashvili as he and Andy Robertson challenged for the ball in the aftermath. Mamardashvili’s injury forced third-choice goalkeeper Freddie Woodman into action for the remainder of the match. Everton also suffered an injury blow as Jarrad Branthwaite was stretchered off.

Speaking to BBC's Match of the Day, Slot said the keeper was immediately taken to hospital. "It didn't look great, it was a big wound and he went straight to the hospital. Let's see how that works out for him but fear worst - not for a long-term injury but for next week" said the Dutchman.
Shortly after the incident, former Everton winger Pat Nevin on BBC Radio 5 Live at Hill Dickinson Stadium said: "Giorgi Mamardashvili really did feel there was something wrong with his knee there. Freddie Woodman is third choice but he is coming on." While Chris Sutton on Sky Sports added: "Arne Slot has a couple of keepers on the bench so it was a decision for him! But it's not good for Mamardashvili, whether it was Beto on the follow-through or Robertson."
Slot will be hoping the injury to Mamardashvili is not serious, with Liverpool already contending with a growing list of absentees. Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni and Wataru Endo remain sidelined with long-term injuries, while Hugo Ekitike is also out for the rest of the season and set to miss this summer’s World Cup.

Virgil van Dijk struck a dramatic 101st-minute winner as Liverpool edged the first derby at Everton’s new stadium, having earlier taken the lead through Mohamed Salah.
Everton believed it had gone ahead in the first half when Iliman Ndiaye found the net, but VAR ruled the effort out for offside. Moments later, Liverpool capitalized as Cody Gakpo set up Salah to open the scoring.
