Liverpool head coach Arne Slot says he shares the frustration of the home fans after the Reds dropped more points at Anfield, this time against Burnley.

The Reds are still fourth in the Premier League but Manchester United is now only a point behind in fifth after it beat Manchester City in Michael Carrick's first game in charge. Chelsea also won this weekend, beating Brentford in Liam Rosenior's first home game.

After Florian Wirtz opened the scoring, though, Liverpool could only draw the match. Marcus Edwards netted an equalizer in the second half of the game when Slot's men had failed to move more than one goal in front.

"Yes, in my head it wasn't a boo, but in my head it was frustration as well," Slot said during his post-match press conference. "We are Liverpool and we play against Burnley.

"We have to give them credit [for] how they defended, cleared balls off the line, all the things you want to see if you are a Burnley manager, players that try to do everything to prevent us from scoring.

"But if we, as Liverpool, are not disappointed anymore by having a draw at home against Burnley, then something is completely wrong.

"I completely understand the frustration. I can tell you I have the same and the players definitely have the same frustration as the fans have."

Liverpool was in control of the game in the main but couldn't force a second goal, which would have killed the result and ended Burnley's hopes of a comeback.

"I think there was one big warning sign when we almost scored an own goal and that chance, and the goal we conceded, came from similar situations where we wanted to try to bring the ball out from the back and we were caught in possession," Slot said.

"Twice that led to a dangerous situation and I think those were the only moments where we struggled, but that was inside five minutes so it felt like, ‘We are having a more difficult spell in the game.’

"So, in a similar way we have conceded those two chances but during the whole game I think we did really well in a combination of bringing the ball out from the back [and] playing a bit more direct.

"But yeah, a great finish from a position which, I think, we had many better positions to score from, but that’s football and we have to accept that."

Liverpool has Marseille in the Champions League next before a trip to Bournemouth. In those games, things should be more open.
