Arne Slot sent clear warning over Liverpool team selection for Crystal Palace game

1 day ago 40

Emile Heskey believes Liverpool should play its strongest team on Wednesday when it hosts Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.

The clash pits two out-of-form sides against each other, with Palace losing three of the last four and Liverpool beaten in six of the previous seven games. But one of last season’s Premier League and FA Cup winners can reverse that sequence on Wednesday and take a huge step towards securing more silverware.

For Liverpool, following a bruising recent run of results that have seen criticism mount and the scrutiny on Arne Slot increase, Heskey believes building momentum is key. The former striker also feels that Slot should not rest any of his key men against Palace despite a run of seven matches in 22 days.

“They can’t afford to,” Heskey said in a recent interview with 10bet Casino. “At the end of the day, they need to win games, and that’s the main thing. I don’t think they can rest anyone.

“Even in the League Cup, they will be looking for a win, and will hope to carry that momentum into the league. They need to keep on the tail of Arsenal; they need to keep the momentum up.

“There will be slip-ups, of course, but you have to win games and get into the habit. The further you get away from a win, you can’t see other teams falling away.”

Despite Heskey’s claims, Liverpool has already hinted that third-choice goalkeeper Freddie Woodman will make his debut on Wednesday.

The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Dominik Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah are also expected to be given a night off.

Meanwhile, the 47-year-old agrees with his ex-teammate Jamie Carragher’s comments that Liverpool is now in a “crisis”.

Heskey feels Liverpool is now in crisis mode following four straight Premier League defeats

“We don’t like to use that word, but what other word can you use? We’ve never seen anything like this at Liverpool for a long time.

“We talked about it, and now we need to know what to do to change it. How do Liverpool turn it around? How do Liverpool pick themselves up and go again?

“They need to create more chances. They’re creating some, but not on the scale they were last season. Then they need to be really clinical to finish those chances as well.”
