Arsenal can save millions on priority transfer thanks to Mikel Arteta's hidden gem

3 months ago 116

Arsenal have acted efficiently in the summer transfer window with over £200million spent on six players and there remains the possibility of further investment before the market closes for business.

Viktor Gyokeres' arrival from Sporting CP was confirmed after weeks of negotiations with Sporting CP. The striker joins Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Christian Norgaard, Cristhian Mosquera and Kepa Arrizabalaga through the door.

The next step in the transfer window is expected to be a left winger with Real Madrid's Rodrygo and Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze both heavily linked. It remains to be seen how much it left available for Andrea Berta this window after such an outlay this summer.

Fortunately for Arsenal, their academy has produced some talented youngsters in recent years. Ethan Nwaneri and Lewis Myles-Skelly were both mainstays in Mikel Arteta's squad last season with over 75 first-team appearances between them.

Now, there is a new talent coming out of Hale End in Max Dowman. The attacking midfielder, only 15, caught the eye of fans with his performances for the Under-21s last term and is part of the Gunners' pre-season squad this summer.

The wonderkid has been tipped to follow Nwaneri and Myles-Skelly in becoming a member of the first-team on a permanent basis. And on Sunday, the teenager produced a number of magical moments that have gone viral on social media.

After replacing Bukayo Saka on the hour mark, Dowman played well on the right wing. His ball-carrying, confidence and agility were all impressive traits at such a young age.

Less than a minute after coming on, he evaded a challenge from Joelinton with a neat piece of skill before being brought down by the Brazilian. He then showed his maturity with his decision-making in tight spaces, his defensive awareness and attacking threat.

After receiving the ball off Ben White, the attacker drove towards goal, raced past three defenders before smashing a left-footed effort at Nick Pope. The England goalkeeper had to make a great save to deny Dowman before pulling off another superb stop moments later.

The moment that has gone viral on social media came when Dowman created the game's decisive moment. After holding off Matt Targett, turning the experienced left-back and breezing inside, the Gunners star raced into the penalty area and was shoved by Joelinton to win a penalty - which Martin Odegaard scored.

Obviously, relying on a 15-year-old when you're challenging for the Premier League title isn't best practice. However, having another talented player to choose from for Arteta could work wonders.

With speculation growing over the need for more millions to be splashed on another attacker, which is still needed, Dowman's talent could save Berta millions on other recruits.
