Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham set for huge cash injection after announcement made

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are expected to be among the top European clubs to receive an increased cash injection for releasing players to represent their national teams.

The three Premier League teams were already rewarded for such an action as part of the FIFA Club Benefits Programme (CBP), but the exact amount any club may obtain has now increased.

As confirmed in a statement, roughly £260million will be available, with that almost a 70% increase on the £153million paid out after the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

That total was shared across all six confederations, with 440 clubs from 51 FIFA member associations benefiting.

"The enhanced edition of the FIFA Club Benefits Programme for the FIFA World Cup 2026 is going a step further by recognising financially the huge contribution that so many clubs and their players around the world make to the staging of both the qualifiers and the final tournament," FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in a statement.

One of the new changes has made a significant incentive available to teams regarding World Cup qualifiers, with compensation still arriving even if a chosen player does not compete in the final tournament.

With that in mind, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Spurs would have been among those that received a large amount from the most recent international break in September.

The Gunners had over 15 players depart London Colney temporarily to represent their respective countries. Meanwhile, Chelsea saw just over half of their London rivals' total travel elsewhere for two weeks, and Tottenham also saw a similar amount travel elsewhere for international fixtures.

The next two-week domestic pause arrives in early October, with most teams having six games before then. Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham all have three Premier League matches, two Champions League fixtures, and a Carabao Cup third-round tie.

The new European campaign kicks off this midweek, and all three clubs are impacted by another statement confirming a major change from a governing body.

"The Executive Committee approved an amendment to the 2025/26 UEFA men's club competitions' regulations to admit the temporary replacement of a maximum of one outfield player with long-term injury or illness during the league phase until matchday 6 included," a UEFA announcement read earlier this month:

"The reasoning for the adaptation is to ensure that squad lists are not unfairly reduced and players are safeguarded from additional workload pressure."

Chelsea have already taken advantage of that by replacing Dario Essugo for Facundo Buonanotte in their squad after the former picked up a serious thigh injury.
