Arsenal concern over Merino foot injury

Arsenal fear midfielder Mikel Merino is set for a sustained spell on the sidelines amid concerns he has suffered a serious foot injury.

The 29-year-old Spain international missed Saturday's win over Leeds with manager Mikel Arteta saying the midfielder would see a specialist to determine a full prognosis.

The exact details of the injury will be confirmed over the next 48 hours but there are concerns Merino will be out for a number of weeks.

Arteta will be hoping for good news on Merino's absence in the coming days with his side facing crucial matches as they continue to compete in four competitions.

Merino, who joined from Real Sociedad in August 2024, has proved an important player this season, scoring six goals across all competitions for the club.

Speaking on Saturday, Arteta said: "He's got an issue in his foot. It's a bone that's giving him some pain, and we have some exams, we need some more specialists to look at it and to see how long he will be out."
