Arsenal delighted by Carabao Cup draw after Mikel Arteta avoids nightmare scenario

3 hours ago 3

Arsenal have drawn Brighton in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup and will host the south coast side on the week commencing October 27. After knocking out Port Vale away from home, having made nine changes, the club showed off its depth.

The summer signings have given Mikel Arteta plenty of options for these types of games. He admitted that it was indeed impressive just how strong a side could be played after so much rotation from the weekend.

“Yes, and what we need to do as well, apart from that, is generate the performances that we want with the players that haven't really played together,” he said. “With a completely different midfield than they've played together before, with a front line that is different as well, Max [Dowman] coming in as well and connecting immediately with the team. It's a lot of positives to take from the game.”

This will of course be very handy when it comes to the later rounds. However, Arsenal will take the breaks when they are afforded to them and the home tie to Brighton is exactly that.

Had they of drawn an away tie, it would have been the first of four big trips for Arteta’s team. On November 1 st , Arsenal make the long trip up north to face Burnley away from home.

Arriving back late on Saturday night, they will be afforded one day’s rest before having a session on Monday. Then, they will fly to Prague for a Tuesday night Champions League clash with Slavia Praha.

Flying back after the match and recovering on Wednesday, they will have two sessions on Thursday and Friday before one of the longest domestic trips of the season up to Sunderland. Covering plenty of distance, they mercifully therefore have the joy of a home match in the midweek before the gauntlet of travels both abroad and in England.
