Arsenal get £69m transfer justification as huge deal 'agreed' after Andrea Berta decision

8 hours ago 28

Arsenal look set for a quiet last few days of the summer transfer window in comparison to other Premier League teams. That is because sporting director Andrea Berta has successfully completed seven deals to strengthen Mikel Arteta's squad with over £250million spent.

The priority will therefore almost definitely be sealing some exits before deadline day with Jakub Kiwior and Reiss Nelson in talks to join Porto and Crystal Palace, respectively. Those two deals going through could allow Arsenal to complete the signing of Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen.

If a deal cannot be agreed, it seems unlikely that Arsenal will panic into signing a new defender to replace Kiwior if he leaves. The same cannot be said for other clubs in England with the latest bumper deal being agreed further highlighting how well Berta has navigated the summer.

With all of that being said, football.london has provided a fresh perspective on the latest Arsenal updates and transfer topics impacting the Gunners.

£69m Gyokeres transfer justification

According to David Ornstein of the Athletic, Newcastle have agreed a £69million (€80m) package deal with Stuttgart for Nick Woltemade.

The 23-year-old arriving at St James' Park will likely finally mean a replacement for Liverpool-linked Alexander Isak has been signed. Though he certainly has a bright future in the game, it is a considerable fee and it furthers how much of a bargain the £64million (€73.5m) deal with Sporting CP for Viktor Gyokeres was.

football.london says: The two centre-forwards are of course at very different stages of their careers but Arsenal getting their man in July has been further justified.

This follows the Magpies seeing a £55million bid rejected by Wolves for Jorgen Strand Larsen. Getting business done early in the window is the aim for most clubs but Arsenal have done that successfully with increased asking prices often set in August as selling clubs have less time to replace their outgoing players.

Isak moving before Monday, September 1 now looks likely and that potential fee will smash Gyokeres' and Woltemade's out of the park.

Berta deadline set

Arsenal are hoping to agree the transfer of Hincapie with Leverkusen before this weekend for under his £51.7m (€60m) release clause, as per journalist Ben Jacobs.

This internal deadline has likely been set in order to avoid Arsenal panicking on deadline day if Jakub Kiwior gets the green light to join Porto.

football.london says: Given how Berta has got business done over the last few months, it is no surprise caution is being taken over a potential deal for Hincapie.

It currently appears to be a complicated deal for Arsenal to get done but a few exits and Leverkusen loosening their stance could change matters. Alternatives to the Ecuador international have been identified which could still see Kiwior exit Emirates Stadium even if Hincapie remains in Germany.

Based on the latest update, it certainly looks as though today will be crucial for any potential transfer with focus then set to switch onto Sunday's Premier League clash against Liverpool.
