Arsenal still hope to add a third attacking signing this summer but could yet add a fourth. The success of their outgoings will determine much of what the Gunners do at the end of this window.
Despite bringing in six players, the club have so far sold very few with only Nuno Tavares and Marquinhos leaving on permanent deals. Karl Hein, Albert Salbi Lokonga, Reiss Nelson, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira remain on the books with the club.
Yet the left wing is drawing the most attention. Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli have both been linked with exits from the club, with the former being the most likely at present.
Were the Gunners to lose one of their two left-wing options, it would prompt them into a move in the market. It is worth bearing in mind their interest in Eberechi Eze is believed by football.london to be separate from the futures of Trossard and Martinelli.
Meaning the club could yet move for Eze if some of their fringe stars are sold, then, should one of the existing pair leave, move for another player. Rodrygo, of Real Madrid, has been the most prevalent option linked with a move to the club this summer and is of known interest to Mikel Arteta.
However, his high €90million (£78million) asking price is simply too high at present. Even if Trossard was to be sold, the fee expected for the Belgian is unlikely to grant the Gunners financial freedom to work within UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations having already spent close to £200million to sign both Eze and Rodrygo.
However, Arsenal could consider Real Madrid’s transfer history as an option, which would be very beneficial to the club’s chances. Los Blancos have not been a club desperate to bring in funds from expendable talent in their ranks.
They have negotiated many reasonable deals over the years, such as Alvaro Odriozola, Martin Odegaard, Achraf Hakimi, Theo Hernandez, Marcos Llorente, and Gonzalo Higuain. All left for very reasonable figures, and despite the reported demands, Real could soften their stance the longer the window goes on.
However, one option for Arsenal could be to explore the club’s willingness to negotiate a potential loan deal. Many might immediately scoff at the possibility, but Real have sanctioned several high-profile loan moves in the hope of a future sale.
James Rodriguez joined European rival Bayern Munich for a hefty loan fee, while the Gunners themselves have benefitted from loans before, with Dani Ceballos and the aforementioned Odegaard, whose temporary move eventually led to a permanent one. Despite the Gunners' rout in the Champions League against Real Madrid last season, the clubs are believed to have a strong relationship in the market.
Andrea Berta has helped broker a couple of deals between Real and his former side and city rivals, no less, Atletico Madrid in either direction. Marcos Llorente and Theo Hernandez swapped Madrid sides during their careers from one to another.
Perhaps the Italian can again pull off an impressive move, but this time for one of Europe’s most coveted wingers. Arsenal adding Rodrygo to the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Bukayo Saka makes for a mouth-watering prospect in a front three, not to mention the support from Odegaard, Kai Havertz, Noni Madueke, and potentially Eze.
